GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (WOWT) – A car chase on I-80 Wednesday morning involving a stolen truck ended with the arrest of a female Lincoln by the Nebraska State Patrol.
Tanika Beacham, 24, was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, possession of stolen property, driving under suspension and an outstanding Lancaster County warrant.
NSP soldiers were advised that there was an attempted traffic stop with the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office and a van truck in Kearney and the truck drove off. Another traffic stop was triggered when a soldier found the truck minutes later heading east on I-80.
The chase began when the driver, Beacham, refused to stop for the second time, the statement said.
Officials say the truck entered the median at mile marker 305 of I-80 and rolled sideways. The truck was reported to zigzag between lanes, leave the roadway and drive recklessly.
Troopers discovered during the chase that the van truck was stolen on Grand Island on Tuesday. It is also reported that the chase lasted around 20 minutes, reaching speeds of around 70 mph and that the truck had two pallets of tortillas.
After the car rolled onto its side, Beacham was taken into custody. She checked herself into a Grand Island hospital for medical clearance and is being housed at Hall County Corrections.
