HOWLAND TREE LIGHTING: The Howland Township Holiday Tree Lighting Festival will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at the East Market Street Lookout. 4 p.m. activities include ornament making, cookie decorating, a tour of the Grinch, a food truck and refreshments. The Warren Civic Chorus Children’s Choir will perform at 4:15 p.m. and Santa Claus will visit the Tree Lighting at 5:30 p.m.

GIRARD CELEBRATES THE HOLIDAYS: The Girard School Parents’ Organization and the Town of Girard will sponsor a tree-lighting ceremony and parade from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday on State Street across from Farmer’s National Bank. There will be games and treats. The parade will begin at the Boardman Medical Supply parking lot, across State Street from Liberty Street, across Market Street, and end at the municipal building parking lot for tree lighting.

CHARITABLE EVENT: Cortland Masonic Lodge will be holding a charitable fundraiser from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at 3263 Everett Hull Road. The event will benefit Bristolville Boy Scout Troop 4075. The lodge hosts a fundraising charity breakfast on the first Saturday of each month to benefit a local organization or charity. Over the past 18 months, the lodge has donated nearly $ 12,000 through community participation and support at their events.

MAGIC OF CHRISTMAS: The Mesopotamia Memorial and Historical Association, 8788 State Route 534, will present ” The magic of Christmas “ 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekends in December from Saturday. On Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. there will be a performance of the String Band Quartet. There will be a themed Christmas tree exhibit. Raffle tickets for the trees cost $ 1 each or six for $ 5.

HANUKKAH CELEBRATION: A community Hanukkah celebration will be held on December 5 at 4 p.m. at Congregation Rodef Shalom, 1119 Elm St., Youngstown.

CHRISTMAS REGISTRATIONS: The Emmanuel Community Care Center, 2 N. State St., Girard, is looking for Christmas registrations through Friday. Families registered at the center can call 330-545-4301 and register their child up to 12 years old. Families can come up with gift ideas for their children. Gift card donations to Aldi’s, Walmart and Giant Eagle and monetary donations will be accepted until December 10.

VISIT WITH SANTA CLAUS: Santa will visit the children from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at VFW station 3332, 433 Arlington Blvd., Newton Falls.
